Gustaf Janson

GUSTAF JANSON (1892-1979), born in Lindesberg and moved to Stockholm in 1904. From 1908 he entered a five-year apprenticeship as a sculptor and at the same time he attended the Technical Evening School for three years. In 1914 he graduated from the Higher Art Industrial School after which he got an employment with the sculptor Carl Eldh. In 1915 he was hired at Herman Bergman's Art Foundry in Stockholm. That same year, Jansson was awarded the business school and the Swedish Craft Association's travel scholarship. He leftovers to Paris after World War I, to study sculpture for Emil Bourdelle at the Académie de la Grand Chaumiére. After returning home, he became artistic associate of architect Elis Bergh at Hovjuvulare C.G Hallberg. For nearly 40 years he stayed with Hallberg. Gustaf Jansson has performed sculptural decorations and decoration details for buildings in Stockholm. In 1958, as an active member, Jansson was elected to the Stockholms Guldsmedsmästarförening founded by Erik Fleming.
